This dataset represents the largest operational boundary level used by law enforcement agencies for dispatch and resource assignment. The Response Areas define broad service regions that group multiple districts, beats, and geoproximity zones under a unified operational boundary. These polygons support computer-aided dispatch and other emergency response systems by identifying which law enforcement resources are responsible for incidents occurring within each area. The dataset reflects the most current configuration of response service areas and is continuously maintained as operational needs evolve.
This dataset exists to provide accurate geospatial information to support the automated 911 dispatch system. The Response Area boundaries enable the system to determine the correct responding agency or resource group and ensure that emergency calls are routed appropriately.

This dataset was derived from the unified LawBoundaries_All feature class by dissolving features on the LawAgency field to generate Response Area boundaries. Maintaining a single unified dataset allows editors to adjust operational boundaries in one place, ensuring consistency among all derived datasets including law_response, law_district, law_beat, and law_gp. The Response Areas represent the highest level of the operational hierarchy and are updated as needed to reflect changes in jurisdiction or service coverage. As of March 10, 2026, all derived layers, including law_response, incorporate the most recent official City Limits data.
